Default Some March '07 sewing projects (Babywearing) *v. pic heavy*

I did these in the first couple weeks of March when I had to occupy myself whilst waiting for the fabric I actually wanted to work on (Hemp/Oganic Cotton Fleece) Due to their design, I had to make 2 of each, except for the last which I had to make four with!

Some pictures aren't to my liking, but I'll just blame today's crappy weather for it

Roses on Black MT... in a Front Carry (with 2.5 year old) :

Blue woven MT... in a Back Carry (with 4.5 year old) :

Spring MT... in a Back Carry (with a 2.5 year old) :

Pink and Yellow stipped woven MT... in a Hip Carry (with 2.5 year old) :

Reversible Retro... first in Front Carry (with 4.5 year old) and then in High Back Carry (with 2.5 year old) :

they're lovely. You've inspired to try the back carry, and it's great and baby is v. comfy, excpet I can't manage not to completely expose myself by rucking up clothes and pushing down pants :? What's the technique there?

Heather was talking at the last BW suppot group that no shops in London currently carry MT's, and then someone suggested I make them to sell through the shops Perhaps when we're more on our feet financially.

Some of these carriers will be for the Babywearing Support Group though.

With the Mei Tai (MT)., the waist straps hold all my clothing layers, so there's not usually any issues with shifting layers. Does that make sense?

What carrier are you going to try the back carry with?

I like the finished result, but dealing with the construction (three layer) wasn't all that exciting! LOL

It's a Mei Tai. I guess I just have to keep practising.

If the NINO meeting is the second Tues in April I can come this time and see them in action. Mike has the week off and therefore I have a chauffeur. Heh.

May I ask where you got the pattern, or is that confidential?

svanmep, thanks Those retro-inspired fabrics have really made a come-back in children related items it seems. I didn't realize that untill a couple days ago!

Polly, come to a BW meeting, and we'll help you figure it out It helps to have someone else be there as back up when trying a new hold anyway, and then we can also get a better idea of the issue you've experienced.

bikruca, your optimism is refreshing! No decisions have been made. I find it quite challenging actually to get much sewing done with the lively children I have :P... And thanks for the baby model offer ROFL I do love carrying your little ones though

PikaJen, yes, it's on the second Tuesday of April

The pattern was inspired by several carriers. I've been making MT's for almost 2 years now and am constantly experimenting with new designs!

Check out this site for basic instructions for making a MT, and at the end of the page are links to other instructions: http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/asian.html

As for the carriers pictured above, you might be able to notice from some of the pictures that the dimensions for none of them are exactly the same But, here are the ranges of dimensions I've used:
    Body: 14" to 17" wide x 15" to 21" long
    Waist Strap: 3" to 5" wide x 50" to 66" long
    Shoulder Straps: 5" to 7" wide x 60" to 90" long

You'll see one or two at the BW meeting, if not sooner (about to PM you about dropping by )

Neato thanks. I have some wonderful asian inspired fabric that I wasn't sure what I'd do with, and this seems a nice application. I'm supposed to be sewing through my stash, but as usual I am buying more than enough to replace it. I've sewn up maybe 5y and purchased about 10y. Dang it. Someday I'm going to be found smothered to death under stacks of fabric.

Wow! I LOVE the 'spring' one, and the retro print is very funky!

I think selling these carriers to a store in London would be a GREAT idea! I'm always having people ask me where I got my carrier, how it works, and how comfortable it is to carry around an almost-1-year-old in it, and a lot of them say they'd like to get one as gifts for their family members, and are disappointed to find out that they're only available online. It would be awesome if they were sold in a store in London, and the store would also be able to advertise itself as the only mei tai retailer in London!
If you do end up making them to be sold in stores at any point, please give them a picture of me and tell them not to sell any to me! I can't be trusted with a debit card!
