I can't wait to start mine again! I actually could have done it with your class.. but Noah was only like two-three weeks old. LOL

Good luck. I'm sure you'll do great. I've been a P.S.W. for 8 1/2 years if you have any questions PM me and I'll try to answer them.

Soo.. how have the first two days been? Grossed out by the lack of standard precautions by the staff there yet?

Today was actually our first day! It wasn't too bad, we didn't really do anything today, we just looked around. Tomorrow we are getting buddied up, so I'm excited, but I'm still pretty nervous.

To answer your previous question, my teacher is Ann. She just came back this year, she used to do the program like 3 years ago, but switched jobs for a bit and now she's back. She's awesome

    I've heard that!!
    Who was your lab teacher?

All the teachers there are FAB!

Oh I hope you get a good buddy! Some of them don't like having students tag along! Piece of advice? Don't take any crap- but be polite (im talking about your buddy) and find things to do when your buddy isn;t giving you any direction! Go team up with another classmate, whatever!
Oh, and in the dinningroom, try and feed as many different residents as possible! So many of them have great stories to share, and its a different experience each and every time, so you'll be better equipped to feed different people later on!

Thanks for the advice! If I have anymore questions I'll know who to ask.

Excellent advice, I'm a nurse and used to work in a local nursing home- the culture there can be pretty scary i.e. with cliques and such, some of the PSW's were just NASTY to each other especially the new folks. (nurses can be that way too- just there are more PSW's and they run the place). Just get a thick skin would be my advice, you will get through this and be a great caregiver.

As Leigh said one of the best things you can do is keep busy- ask how you can help and you will be the staff's best friend
