a big reason i thought was because they were too shy to ask questions under their own name like sex, flings, hating someone, marriage issues, complaining about a friend whatever, apparently some ppl have issue with ppl they know personally on this board like exs or exs new girlfriend, or BFFs knowing more detailed information but they want support or their curious or they need to vent.........variety of possibilities really, to me that button is no different then the ppl who pick a name and never share the name of their children or a personal story just their mindset.....you gotta do what works for you

The future is uncertain... but this uncertainty is at the very heart of human creativity

Sue - if you look at the 'rules' for posting Anon, it might give you some indication of when it's okay and why people would want to use it.

for the same reason anyone would want to remain anonymous in any part of life
So it doesn't reveal who they are, they can get an objective response without past incidents colouring it, no ex or friend or relative can prove THEY said this, they can say something that embarrasses them but they might need to ask or say, etc etc. I've never used it here but have on my other site, mostly for more medical type stuff and actually I think it was dh's question lol.
