    Default Memories/Smells of Childhood?

I know we have memories of school on here, what about memories of Childhood? What is something you see, smell, taste or hear that reminds you of growing up?

For me its ,the smell of mac apples and mandarin oranges, swimming, the smell of strawberry shortcake(doll), thunderstorms, old disney movies, Florida, NKOTB, Matthew Lawrence, soccer, the smell of a Christmas tree, Bunty and Mandy books/Archie comics, carving pumpkins, and boat rides. JUST to name a few! lol I have loads of great growing up memory triggers.

When I walk by someone smoking a pipe, it reminds me of my Poppi. When I walk by an automotive shop I breathe deeply cos that smells like my dad's shop on our farm growing up.
Turkey cooking or applecrisp bakingremind me of my mommy.
Making prints and tracks in the snow remind me of my dad.
I know most of the old characters bring back memories for me, like we had ALF shirts and Carebear toys and so on.
When I hear music that my mom had back then it sometimes triggers a memory of a time I heard it, like I'll hear True Blue and suddenly remember vividly, how it felt to swing on the swingset with my eyes closed and snow falling, kwim.

The smell of roast in the oven reminds me of Sunday's and my Mom's dinner
    Carebear show on TV
    Cozy snowed in days

One of my biggest is the smell of a lamb roasting, smells like my Nanna's used to. When I get off the elevator at my parents and my Mom is cooking a roast leg of lamb I swear I time travelled back 30 years and I'll see my Nanna. I miss her.

This is weird. The smell of PVC plastic takes me back, to me it's the smell of a brand new doll! Pine-Sol reminds me of Saturday mornings when my mom would clean the house and we'd have to leave her alone. Also certain classical music pieces and themes from CBC radio remind me of when I was young.

The smell of Rye (Whisky) on someone's breath reminds me of my Papa. When we would go to the cottage in the summer he always smelled of Rye and sweat.

How random is it that the smell of alcohol or tobacco reminds us of our grandfathers?? Yes, tobacco pipes make me immediately think of my Grandpa. He died of cancer, no lie.

Those little insects that rub their legs together in the summer, know what I mean? that reminds me of summer at my Nana's. And those candies with the fizz in them. And, yeah, anything by NKOTB although I don't know if that's a 'childhood' so much as early teen memory. My mom's (now mine) chocolate chip cookie recipe, powedered milk, slouch socks doubled up and matching my outfits, random pieces of shiny metallic things attached to my earrings (WTF were those??), stirrup pants, Boy George, INXS (the good stuff) and singing oldies with my dad.

the only smell that reminds me of my childhood, is the smell of fire, which brings back the memory of seeing my house on fire when i was 5 yrs old. To this day i am still afraid of fire.

Anothermemory i have is when there used to be the TGIF programs onfridays nights. My family would all get together and watch them, and when my dad would come home from work, he would always bring a small treat home for us to eat.

The smell of applesauce reminds me of my mom making it mmmmm
I love the sun, My Mom had very blond hair and the sun would make it look like a halo, whenever I see someone with that bright blond hair and the sun shining it brings me back.

Halloween candy, there is something about the smell of all that candy all mixed together , it still smells the same as when I was a kid I love it

I could go on forever about this.

I hope my kids have great smells/memories too.

Whenever I see a 'quilt' at a craft show or retail store I am instantly transported back to being 3 years old and hiding under the quilting table at my grandmas Sunday afternoon as the women all worked on a community quilt for the church and I played with my dolls and listened to the 'gossip' going on up above ... I can smell the mothballs that the fabirc had from being 'stored' waiting to become the quilt and the 'lilly' perfume that they all seemed to wear.

Peppermints ... the 'Scotch' ones also remind me of my Grandpa ... he used to keep a stash in his pocket and would hand them over in church to help keep us quiet!

My grandparents were mennonite ... as a youngster their house was the BEST to explore in but as I grew older we spent less time there cause it wasnt 'cool' with the technology and such ...but I definitely think it was their influence when I was young that makes me crave 'simpler times' in our life now!
