Default Can a person who smells like an ashtray...

Ok, I keep getting headaches. I have noticed that they seem to come after I spend time conferencing with my student teacher who smells like an ashtray. Is this possible?

That happens to me as well. Whenever I get close to someone who smells like smoke I also have a hard time talking properly since it seems to affect my breathing.

I gave up my big 2 cigarettes a day when I met my DH and for me, I'm SOOO glad I did. Now I do get headaches when I'm around other smokers and even a little nautious.

I wonder how you COULD say something...hmmmmmm, maybe ask him/her not to smoke DIRECTLY before she sees you (to avoid the intense smell) or let him/her know that your really sensitive and allergic. I don't actually know is those are good ones or not...it IS tricky.

Yep, it's possible. I get the same way whenever I am around a smoker. Unfortunately, both of my parents smoke heavily and in their home and car so whenever I go to their house (which isn't often because of this fact), I feel this way and we all walk out just stinking of it! We have been accused of smoking too! Luckily, they take it outside when we go there but the minute we leave, back inside with it they go. Pathetic in this day and age if you ask me! Most smokers honestly don't know how bad they smell. I am a former smoker btw and I really and truly had no idea years ago how bad my clothes smelled.

That would drive me crazy. It makes me clear my throat whenever I smell cigarette smoke. I don't know how you can say something without possibly offending.
    Good luck

Yeah that does it to me too... one of the reasons I stopped visiting my mother. There's not much you can really say, maybe meet somewhere more 'open' and sit upwind? Ugh the worst moment for me was when my MIDWIFE came into my house to check on my two-day-old son and I and I could smell that she had JUST smoked a cigarette before coming into my house. BLECH.

I was telling my mom and she suggested I fake a note from one of my students! Ha ha ha! Can you imagine this:

Mrs. X I don't like the way you smell. You shouldn't smoke!!!

Your Mom might have the right idea.

You could approach by saying a student has talked to you about headaches associated with second hand smoke smell. And ask her to please try and make sure her clothes are as smoke free as possible.
