    Default Kids free to fly?

We are planning our first family trip to Florida in March and my DD will be 15 months then. Would I have to buy a ticket for her on the plane? or are they free? I thought I heard about kids being free until they are 3 or 4, am I wrong?

Usually free until they're 2, but she won't have a seat. You will have to hold her on your lap. Better to pay for the seat and strap her into a car seat on the plane!

Sort of free until 2 when they require you to buy a seat. Some airlines (maybe all???) I believe charge 10% of the adult fare for a "lap baby."

Exactly how I feel. We fly A LOT and DS has nearly always (all but 3-5 flights out of over 100) had his own seat with his car seat strapped down.

Under 2 on Air Canada and West Jet the last time we flew - no fee for lap babies, either. My sis takes her 19mo on flights w/o a seat with no trouble. Probably depends on your child's temperment, how far the flight and if you have anyone else with you (adult or kid) regarding whether to get a seat for them.

A lot of airlines it's free until the age of 2. We just flew to and from San Fran Calif and took our 2 children with us. Our youngest was just over 2 at the time (end of June) and we had to pay full fare for him, along with the rest of us. We flew out of Detroit with Northwest btw...much cheaper to do it this way than fly out of Canada!

Free until the age of 2 (bring her birth certificate with you) and when you are checking in ask the agent if they can hold the seat beside you. If the plane is not full then you will get a seat for your child but if it is full then that will be one of the last ones they will fill.

I have flown with my girls for a combination of about 4 times and we have never had to lose our seat that was on hold.
