Default Where to get ears pierced?

My challenge later today is to accompany a twelve year old to have her ears pierced and to research where we should have it done. She needs hypoallergenic, surgical steel posts and I would prefer some place that doesn't rush her, and where they use a numbing gel or something to reduce the pain.

Any suggestions? Expectation of cost? Is an appointment necessary? Thanks in advance LMs!

I would actually seek out a reputable tattoo/piercing studio. I know there's always a bit of a debate about the topic on the forum but just from my background, I wouldn't go to a place in the mall for piercing.

Try somewhere like Addictive (may be closed Mondays though) or the place on Richmond Row by the tracks...someone help me with the name here....

I've heard some of them (in the malls) have never been trained! They are just given the gun and do it.

Yeah... I don't like the thought of that at all.

I'm taking my dd to Ardene's when she's ready if they still have the plastic ones. They are the only place I've seen them and the only earings I haven't had an issue with (inc the $50+ gold ones from Carol Baker Visage).

If not, I'll take her to a tattoo place (or for cartilage she'd be going there too).

eta: I'd ask about experience and come back when i felt comfortable. And this goes for ds too

I agree with the tatoo place, as I have heard with the guns it is not possibly to completly sterilize them.

When you get your ears pierced from peoples or mappins they come in already sterile packages that haven't been touched. They are almost all either surgical steel or gold posts or in some cases titanium. My daughter can only use the titanium because she's severely allergic to gold. I strongly suggest you check out any tat shop that does pierciings wisely. my artist works at Perfect Image and I have yet to have a piercing by them. I have heard stories of come tat parlours embellishing the prices of piercings depending on the client (milk more from the mom and daughter group). Just keep your eye out. No, you are not given "training" per sa when you pierce ears at the mall. It's a trial and error and lots have resorted to having only the manager and senior staff to do piercings. I don't know many tho that use numbing gel. I think that's a bring your own type of deal, but I could be wrong. Good luck with your search.
