    Default Chronic Thrush, please help!

My 4 month old has had thrush since she was 2 weeks old. We've been on 3 rounds of Nystatin and it doesn't work. All it does is give her gas, vomiting and a lot of crying. I just tried gentian violet and it seemed to work, but now 4 days later the thrush is back. I've tried probiotics for both of us, vinegar rinse for my nipples, canestan for nipples as well (I don't have symptoms on my nipples but I am treating anyways). Please help! Does this ever go away?

Yes, it goes away - usually with age.

My middle kid had it really bad and we ended up giving him plain yogurt drinks in a bottle and it cleared up. He was around 4 months as well.
It's the same way I got rid of my own thrush after the doctor put me on steroids - that mouth rise was AWFUL.

Did you read through Dr. Newman's info on thrush?

You need to get a script for a different anti-fungal. Fluconazole tends to be effective when nystatin has not.

My youngest had this quite a bit as a baby, and it turns out it was that she couldn't have dairy (and was getting it in my diet). Good luck!

I followed the Jack Newman protocol and was diligent with it for 2 weeks. Thrush went away for good.

Update: We've been yeast free for over a month now! I asked a pediatric nurse about yogurt mentioned by gogomom. She said that they used yogurt in the hospitals years ago. The only thing that worked was the PLAIN probiotic yogurt. I wiped it in her mouth over the thrush areas 4 times a day. It worked immediately. I wiped the yogurt in her mouth once a day for maintenance for a few weeks and now we don't use anything. Thank you gogomom for the great advice!
