I used to put a towel in the bottom of our actual bath tub and add maybe an inch or so of water, just covering the towel, and put baby on the towel in the tub to bathe. She was a very squirmy kid and the baby bathtub didn't work for us.

I used the most basic bathtub I could find.. essentially it was a plastic bin shaped like a bathtub. Then I placed this little baby sling in it with a bit of water and sponge bathed the baby. The baby sling was really great... it was super cheap and light and let water through it, and I could use it in the big bathtub or the sink or the baby bathtub. Mine looked something like this one:

I've used this one with all 3 of my kids. Never bothered with the newborn sling... My oldest used it until 1, the others until they were sitting up well enough for the big tub.

Kitchen sink. No bending over and killing your back.

Th most basic ones are the best with the little mesh sling that's like $5 at walmart. Then u move th sling to the tub when they are bigger but not sitting. Once they sit (but not well enough yet) sink it is until they sit really well an then back to the tub.

He moral of the story- you adjust based on babies needs and abilities. Don't spend an arm and a leg on something you may or may not use, and if u do use it, it will be for a extremely brief time.

Safety is first for a baby bathing time. My favorite is Shnuggle bathtub. It uses less water while also being easier to use wherever you need to like in the kitchen sink, bathroom shower, bathtub, or even in the nursery. I used to take a bath with a ton of toys.
