    Default T5 question

We received our T5, and the amount under line 13 is confusing. Should that be the total interest earned on investments?

    Hi there

Box 13 is the total interest earned in the year .... but often investments earn different types of income (interest , foreign, dividends, sometimes a return of your capital and/or gains). The type of investment also dictates the amount of income allocated.

The slip you get is also sent to CRA who match it against what you claim on your return .... If you're not sure it's been correctly computed then I'd start with talking to your broker to have them break it out and check against your monthly statements.

Not sure if that answers your question .... Let me know if you need more.
