I think it would depend on the class, the cost of renting vs. buying new vs. buying used.

I purchased about half of my textbooks used, some new (as they were new editions/photocopied packages put together by the instructors). I would have loved to have rented some of my textbooks - provided it was a savings, and I had no interest in keeping the books.

If u r interested in saving some bucks...other students try and sell their old textbooks. My daughter has bought and sold some of hers on Kijiji.

Do you know where I would look to buy used textbooks? I would like to compare prices on used vs renting. I am leaning more towards renting or used because I don't think these are books I will really want to keep unlike the last book I needed.

Fanshawe runs a used books store - it used to be open at the beginning and end of semesters (this was 10 years ago, when I was in school). They would buy texts for cheap, then sell them again for more than they paid. It was still cheaper than buying new. Also check on Kijiji, you may find some there. Students would also post their books on the bulletin boards - not sure if that stil happens.

If it is Fanshawe that u r going to, there are bulletin boards where students post their lists of used books.
Also try their book store there.
You should also try posting on Kijiji for books you need.
