    Default Any coin collectors?

My ds has always kept any odd coins he finds, and then his great grandfather (who passed away last
year) gave him a bunch of coins he had collected in his world travels. DS loves to look at the coin sets
at the Post Office. So basically, just wondering, where do you buy your coins, what advice do you have for
someone getting into collecting? Do you collect based on value someday, or just on novelty of the coin?

I have bought off Ebay, and also from the London Coin & Collectibles store downtown near the BudGardens. Rarely, I have ordered from the Mint directly (or from Canada Post's catalogue) when they have a sale on discontinued coins. There is a numismatic event yearly in London - the last one I recall was at the Ramada Inn.

Grab a book from the library about coin collecting... it can give you an idea on how to grade coins, determine value/rarity, etc. I wouldn't buy one, they come out with a new one every year.

I don't buy my coins, I wait for them to appear in change and collect anything that doesn't have the standard image on the front.

I signed up for an account at the Royal Canadian Mint and get the emails. When a good deal comes up I buy something like a $20 Silver coin for $20 plu shipping and handling. I have done this a few times and found it easy and convenient and if it is back ordered, you can track it and they send it when ready. Best Sellers from the Royal Canadian Mint
