    Hi there,

Marriage councilling is deductible as a medical expense IF performed by a Registered Psychologist or Social Worker. Ensure your receipt says who performed the service.

Legal fees are rarely deductible unless they relate specifically to increasing child support. The costs of preparing seperation agreements/divorce etc are NOT deductible. Ensure any invoice breaks out specifically the time allocated to the child support amounts and ensure you retain all receipts as CRA will very likely ask to see them.

Fitness credit amounts are claimed for the year PAID so if you paid in December for a January program - claim for the December year (2012).

    Hope that helps!

I was just thinking about this yesterday, and assumed they went for the year they were actually in the program. I would have done it wrong, so thank you!

    Hi again,

The stuff (helmets, clothing, bike, skates etc) that you need for the activity do NOT count. Only fees paid to another person for an activity that's at least 8 wks in length or 5 days in a row counts towards the fitness credit.

As an aside, same premise for the Art credit -

And as a second aside ... for personal deductions it's almost ALWAYS when the cash is paid (medical, fitness and Art credits, donations etc).

    Hope that helps again!
