Are the mid and western states traditionally more blue??? The amount of red showing up here already is very alarming to me. I can only hope that blue picks up in the next time zones...

They were talking about things being pretty well split earlier and the Electoral college likely being the deciding factor in this election...I was likeIf these candidates were running in Canada it wouldn't even be close. It would be a landslide victory for Obama
We have had treehouse on all night - the only station I can stand to watch right now cause I am getting angry. LOL

OMG, how is Romney even close, let alone WINNING right now!? Ohhhh I can't watch.
DH just made me change it to the stupid election results. My only joy right now is the knowledge that this is it for the US election TV-hogging. No more big party conventions, no more debates, no more any of it. The results are making me ill.
The coasts are more blue, but they're also more concentrated and hold more seats than the big wide open middle America red states, so it roughly balances.
I'm going to crawl back under my rock. I'm nervous about what will happen if he wins.

Have you heard about the voting machines altering the votes? Someone mentioned something on t.v talked about it and then I found this vid. I can't say if it's actual vid of the vote or not, but if it is, I can't see this going over well...

This is the map from the 2008 election when Obama won.
The majority of the states that are red now, were red then and Obama still kicked ass. I think he will again this time, it just shows that Romney has an early lead - but the concentrated population in the blue areas will overcome the red less populated areas.

Sunrise - I can't rep you again, but thank you!!! That makes me breathe a bit easier!
Yeah, my US friends and family say nothing is a surprise just yet.
Thanks, Sunrise. I was just explaining this to my kids too. They were freaking out when they saw all the red on TV. Then my 2nd grader told me that California has over 50 electoral votes, so it's not as bad as it looks. (Apparently he is learning something in school.)
No surprises yet. Although Indiana is the only state that is deviating from the 2008 results at the moment, as it shows Romney in the lead, there's only 65% of votes counted... so that's a large opportunity for it to change, and it most likely will.
I always keep my eye on Ohio and Florida. I think Obama will take both. I think Florida will be a close race though.

Maybe late late tonight but most likely there's going to be a “controversy“ and then a “dispute“ and then some "let's re-count" speak going on. Meh, I'd just head to bed and check google news in the morning.

Last election they called it during John Stewart. LOL Won't happen this time around.
DH has now turned off Treehouse and we have CNN on. It is going to be a long night and the jerk did not even bring me home a chocolate bar for my nerves. LOL
