    Exclamation Our Van Caught Fire!!!

Today DH dropped me and the 2 girls at No frills. Went to get gas and came back. He was letting the van run for a few to heat it up at bit and my 9 year old said" I smell alcohol wipes" My Dh thought he smelled something electrical too so he shut it down looked under the hood and sure enough there was flames!

He got the 3 boys out and handed Noah to some random guy and called 911. A guy brought over a fire extinguisher and they put the fire out . The Fire trucks showed up and disconnected the battery and said my DH couldn't drive it.

I'm so glad everyone is ok and I'm glad my 9 year old has the nose of a bloodhound.

I am going to call my insurance company on Monday. does anyone know if they will cover this, There is no damage to anything other then the engine and under the hood.

Sounds like an electrical fire, this is what happened to my neighbour's car last summer and wow, the flames shot up high enough I could feel the heat through our side window. I'm glad no one was hurt, and I hope it works out with your insurance.

Eek! I'm glad to hear that nobody was hurt. I can't see why insurance wouldn't cover it, good luck and let us know what happens when you call!

I'm glad everyone got out ok....my husband says it depends on the year, the make, if it's just coming off of a lease...etc...whether the insurance will just write the whole thing off, depends if its cheaper for them to get a whole new vehicle, rather then replace everything under the hood which usually is what happens...he also said that depending on the vehicle and how new it is and what the problem is it can be charged back to the manufacturer, if its not that old and no mechanical work has been done then he would go after the manufacturer....good luck...

What a scare! Glade everyone's ok. I'm sure insurance will cover it, what's the make and model? You should google and see if it's happened to other owners of the vehicle...

I would think you'd be covered for this. I saw a cab once on fire at No Frill's at Argyle Mall and by the time the trucks showed up it was quite the show! Glad everyone is ok and hope it didn't upset the kids. It would upset me as the adrenalin must have been pumping!

Hey Tanya, glad to hear everyone was safe, what a scare that must have been. Hope you are able to get your van fixed soon!! I'd think that the repairs should be covered under the comprehensive part of your insurance, do you have a deductable on your comprehensive, mine's $500 with the co-operator's.

Take care, feel free to contact me on msn or facebook anytime!!
