    Default Natural Cereal

My LO is almost old enough to start solids. I took a look at the ingredient list on some of the commecial cereals out there and was kind of grossed out. Anybody know of any natural cereals? Could I make my own brown rice and blend it? Any good ideas?

    Thanks,
    Sophie

I really liked the PC Organics oatmeal and rice. But i also made my own. I would cook the oatmeal and puree it and both my boys liked it.

I was just looking up some recipes for homemade cereals.
Here is the link I liked best:

I hope it is useful to you.

I read from the Dr. Jack Newman site that infant cereals are not necessary. I read this after DD was having trouble with commercial cereals - the iron was very constipating to her. I would make oatmeal and then zap it in the food processor, same with brown rice. I also found that Amaranth was her favourite and I found it was easy to cook in the rice cooker

The wholesome baby food site is great! We used one box of each grain (rice, oats, barley) and then didn't use any more. She didn't really like them, we were introducing other foods and then I just started to make my own and we blended/chopped it less and less before cooking till she ate the whole grains.

I've read a lot that says that you don't need the prepared stuff, too. I decided I definitely wasn't buying any more when I started tasting them and they tasted horrible and nothing like the actual grains!

If you don't want to use baby cereal, you don't have to - at six months, you can introduce meat, rice, vegetables and fruit, one food at a time, and then expand to include other foods at the 9 month mark.

I'm planning on skipping cereal entirely. It's not as nutritious as other foods.
