Default Switching from puppy food to adult dog food?

I've heard so many conflicting opinions from vets and people at the pet store, so I thought I would ask here and see what others have done. My puppy is now 6 months and is on a large breed controlled growth puppy food. I've been told that once she reaches 6 months to switch to adult food. Others say 1 year, and still others say 2 years?? I guess my question is, when should I switch? She's a giant breed (St. Bernard) and I don't want her growing too fast and putting too much stress on her joints. I can't remember which has more fat, the puppy or adult? Just wondering what others have done?

We switched at one year to Science Diet Adult food. It actually said on the bag that it's made for dogs over one year. On the puppy food we were buying it said that it was meant for up to one year.
The vet gave us the same information so that's what we did, but I would definitely ask your vet what would work best for your dog. Our dog is a medium sized mix....

with large and giant breed dogs it is one year and up it is smaller breeds can start at 8 months thats from my vet. You should also stick with the large breed food as well

I've never heard of switching to adult food any less than one year old.

I just found out from my vet that Panda (13 months old Border Collie mix) should have been switched off puppy food at 9 months as was growing fine...NOW they tell me...he is 15 lbs heavier than they want so we have to switch ASAP. He is currently on Iams large breed puppy food so I need to look for our next step too...I will be watching for suggestions!
(On the bag it says for up to 24 months so I was not planning to switch, sheesh, so confusing)

I'd see what your Vet recommends. i would think they would know best.
Your life is a result of the choices you make, if you don't like your life it's time to start making better choices.
