Default Post fun stuff you do with your kids this summer here: crafty/home things

I got this one from Aunt Petunia.

Yesterday we put a bunch of small toys in tupperware, filled with water, and froze.

Today they will get forks or something and chisel their toys out of the ice block.

    We did that too!!

Markus is very heat sensitive, and with the heat they are calling for this week, Im now just going to find fun things to do around the house.

I was thinking maybe they would help me start the babies room (which would involve moving toys and cleaning, since its currently a playroom) but that doesnt sound like fun to them at all.

We love to paint the fence and deck with large paintbrushes (from dollar store in hardware area) and water when it“s very hot out.

Pressed flowers, then using the flowers for art, cards, banners, etc. Lee Valley has a good microwave flower press which speeds up the process!

Today we made a count down to school with events on it in a banner style. (we each made one). I made a bigger one and we've started writing something we did each day on it so at the end of the summer we have a nifty little booklet of what we did. I left space on the back to hopefully add a pic from each day
...and in that moment I swear we were infinite.

You could get a canvas and some paint in colours that would match the nursery and get them to make a painting together for the new baby.

I will follow this thread with interest.

    Make goop (cornstarch and water)

    Glowsticks in the bathtub

Blow bubbles with big cups (like Solo - cut a whole in the bottom to blow through)

Construct stuff with mini marshmallows and toothpicks

    Toast/peanut butter/birdseed bird feeder things

    Mani/pedi's

    Crafts with dried beans

Make coloured ice cubes. Put them in bowls of warm water and see what colours you can make.

Dinosaur poop - it's in one of those links above. Dip cotton balls in flour/water/colouring, bake for 45min at 300F.

Make jello on cookie sheets. give noodles and cutters and stuff to poke in it.

Make a huge pot of spaghetti, put it in a bin and let them play with it.

Give roll of toilet paper. Let them make dresses out of it.

What's missing game - put 5-10 items on a tray. Let them look at it. Close eyes. Take one away. They have to guess what.

Sprinkle ice cubes with glitter and oil. drop in bowls of water and see what happens.

    Texture rubbing with crayons outside.

    Make a mold garden

Do an organic vs sprayed experiment (see how they break down)

Compost in baggies to watch it break down

Then we have all the usual summer stuff like wading pools, hopscotch, lemonade stand, beach, sleepovers at grandparents, farmers market, forts, read every book in our house, playdates.

I'm totally watching this thread!! I'm home for the summer with the kids this year (YAY!!!), so will need fun stuff to do.

I did this with my kids a little while ago and they thought it was the coolest thing (once they got over thinking I was nuts lol). it only takes a few minutes, but they'll play with it for quite a while after lol! (take it outside though or to the bathtub - it flakes apart and is quite messy)
