Default Question for those of you with 8 year olds

For those of you with 8 year old children, do you still have your LO ride in a booster seat in the vehicle? My oldest son is 8 (will be 9 on Oct 1). He weighs just 60lbs & is what I'd consider average height, so I still keep him in his booster seat in the vehicle (except for the rare times MIL rides in back seat of our car with the 2 boys. There's no room for her + 2 booster seats). I believe it's age 8 you can have your child stop riding in one or it's based on height/weight as well. I'd prefer to keep my son in it for a while yet, until he gains more weight.

I'm not sure exactly how tall my son is right now. I should measure him lol! @ one point in time, I used to think he was a taller kid but as time has gone on, I'm thinking that is no longer the case, as there seems to be a lot of kids his age who are much taller than him! I'm going to measure him when he gets home from school now lol!

Nope....an important factor is how they sit in the seat...there legs shuold bend over the edge of the seat when they are sitting with their back against the back rest. The belt should fall on their shoulder and the lap belt should sit where its supposed to sit. If it doesn't defintely keep them in the booster.

My kids pretty much left their boosters at 8 - but they met the other requirements long before their birthdays - except DS#2 for height - he still doesn't meet the height requirement at 11.

I think he's quite a bit taller than E too yeah? E was catching up to him @ one point there but is now @ the lower end of the spectrum for height I think. Maybe he's gonna have his mama's height lol! Nah, I'm sure in the next year or so he'll be towering over me lol!

Mine was out of her seat the day she turned 8. She hated the seat with a passion.

He will be 9 in November and still has the low back booster. If he goes with my parents or DS2's dad then he just uses the seatbelt, but he found the seatbelt touches his face/neck and he doesn't like it - which is the main reason for using a booster - to make them tall enough to properly fit the seatbelt. So even though he was really wanting to get out of it at age 8, he hasn't asked since he realized he prefers the booster
He's almost 60lbs, not sure of height but he's pretty tall - very skinny.

My almost 10yo is still in a highback booster. His Monterey will last him a while as he's nowhere near these maximums:
Child Weight: 18.2-54 kg (40-120 lbs)
    Child Height: 96.5-160 cm (38”-63”)

My kid aren't that age at all. I just wanted to toss this link out there.

    The 5-Step Test

Passing the 5 step tests is more important then weight or age or possibly even height. All kids are built differently and it takes time for them to properly fit in a seat belt.

mine will be 8 in july and shes out of hers. shes very tall for her age (tallest in the class) and weighs just over 80 lbs. the seat belt fits her fine without the booster.
