Default Baby wearing using non stretch woven cotton

I recently purchase non stretch cotton to wear my 21 pound son. We're having a hard time with it. cloth size is 5 metres I think that I need to make it into a tei mei has any one any ideas on wraping so he's snug. So far I've used the infant wrap positions and ties that I do for my stretch knits and this just doen't work, he's too lose at the top of the pouch

Congrats on getting your first woven wrap! What brand and colorway did you get?

Oh, wish I had more time to respond! I absolutely love my woven wrap, though there is a larger learning curve than many other carriers. Still, it is totally worth it when you get used to it. Woven wraps are considered by many to be unsurpassed for support and longterm-wearing comfort.

It sounds to me like you are not wrapping tight enough. That's a very common thing that wrap newbies do. Don't be afraid to tighten - it's unlikely you'll be tightening too much, and by the time you're done tying off, it does loosen up. Would it possible for you to post a picture?

I would recommend practicing with a doll first, over a soft surface, then moving on to trying baby in the wrap over a soft surface, with a spot-checker and/or a mirror to check your work. If you can come to the Babywearing support group, you'll have lots of support and help to get to wrapping confidentially in no time

I've GTR now, but do let us know how you're making out with wrapping

I have a woven wrap that sound similar to yours. ( Rolz and Sassy?)

Like the PP said it does seem tight but the fabric gives a bit, especially just after washing. I have found that if I tie the wrap on first, then insert baby into it that I get a better fit. My DD is 12 months and she still rides in a sling, although with the cooler weather I have worn her less.

My wrap came with a video about different ways to wear your baby. I have not yet watched it, maybe I should. I don't know if www.mamatoto.org has videos of your specific sling but I found them to be helpful when I was starting out.

If you are continuing to struggle with it and are coming to London, there is a baby wearing group that meets at one of the Doula Centres here in London - or if you just need a basic demo Cheeky Monkey Employees are helpful at demonstrating or I would be happy to show you how I tie mine on.

Hum, I think I need different material. I purchased it from fabricland under the woven stretch cotton section. Mine has a slight diaganal stretch to it. I somehow think that this is different than the woven stuff that comes from handmade and off shore countries.
My little one who is now 11 months old loves the stretch knit stuff it's very elasticated. He's been teething and likes to be carried. I think I'll come to the next baby wearing meeting so I can have a look and see what your doing. I also would be open to purchasing a Tei mei if he likes it.
