    Default Twins at 27 weeks

This week at my midwife appointment I measured several weeks larger than expected - this is baby #2. The midwife has requested another ultrasound (already had one at 8 weeks and another at 18 weeks). She said possible causes were big baby, too much fluid, placement of placenta or TWINS!!

Of course I have to wait until the 17th for an ultrasound appointment...

Anyone find out they were having twins later in pregnancy? After ultrasounds?

Why do people do that? She should have stoped at the first 3 possibilities! I would be going a little crazy waiting if I was in your situation! Good luck!

I think the chances are slim. I found out at 19 weeks that I was having twins. Since you had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, I think it would be highly unlikely that they missed it.

I asked about this at my 20 week ultrasound with my second pregnancy because DH really didn't want another set of twins. The tech said it was rare to miss twins at an anatomy scan.

I know a friend measured big and it was due to her baby being a bigger baby and the position of the baby. Her baby was 9 lbs.

It's highly unlikely that they missed a twin, especially at the 18 week us. It's pretty common to be measuring big, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Ladies - still rather concerned... I am measuring 33 weeks (6 weeks big) and DS was 8.8 lbs

I found out at 20 weeks ultrasound so I cannot imagine it being missed before this for you. Try not to worry too much. Easier said than done though.

I was told that after your first pregnancy measurements weren't as accurate because you've already been stretched. Hopefully the next 2 weeks before your appointment go by fast.

I knew a girl who found out in June that she was to have twins, and was due in August.. so it's not impossible..

A friend had twins with her third pregnancy and had complications from the start which required ultrasounds at 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and then finally at 18 weeks they found out it was twins, so although the first couple were really early I would have thought the 16 week one would have had visible twins so I would think it is possible.
