Absolutely! It's a mantra you should be repeating to yourself every time you are doubting yourself. Here's what I have posted all over my house...

    The Optimist's Creed:

    I Promise Myself...

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time to improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.

You are absolutely right - you are only one person and can only do so much. I think we are our own worst critics and set super high goals for ourselves most of the time, so then we feel like we haven't lived up to it - because it's impossible to!

I'm not in your situation, but just wanted to send some hugs your way!

Definitely our own worst critics! Something I remind myself every day (and it's a bit sad to think about it but) I turned out okay. By anyone's standards I am a good person and I was a child born in 1979. Smoke-filled house full of alcoholics where corporal punishment was “ok“. I grew up on very little and went through hell and back a few times. But I made it...and I am raising my kids the best way I know how, living life being the best person I can be. That's all anyone can ask. Heck, if I do things even slightly better than what I had growing up, my kids will be just fine...great even!
