Default Which partner should apply for the DTC?

Sorry - short on time. I tried searching, and was wading through threads LOL but you guys are faster.

Should DH (primary breadwinner) file for it or me (full time SAHM)?

    Thanks!

    it doesn't matter. it's transferable.

Normally suggested that the income earner with the higher income claims it. ( it's a tax write off).

Yes - biggest income person claims it. It won't help your taxes but will help his.

Geo please let me know if you have any other questions - I owe you

Yup. Usually the bigger earner. I always let our software program “maximize who claims what“ and it's always DH.

It's a non-refundable tax credit, so it will only reduce the total amount of taxes that you owe. So, if for example the credit is equal to $1,100 and you only owe $800, you won't get a refund for $300. But, if DH owes $16,000 and has already paid a good chunk of that, it will likely increase his refund.
