Default Anyone got any HSing reading recs?

I'm almost done my Harry Potter reading blitz and want to read something more on HSing.

I know I read one I liked by John Something who used to be a teacher in NYC.

    What else is out there?

    Thanks!

Are you looking for unschooling resources and critiques of the current education system, or are you looking for books that are more on how to homeschool?

I think you're looking for John Holt - here's his website - HoltGWS Home .

John Holt is great, but it sounds like you're thinking of John Taylor Gatto -- he was a schoolteacher in NY for many years, got “Teacher of the Year“ a number of times in NYC.

John Taylor Gatto - Challenging the Myths of Modern Schooling

His big treatise is called “Dumbing Us Down“ and he wrote another recently called “Weapons of Mass Instruction“. Both great reads, imo. Satisfies the conspiracy theorist in me.

I just read Free Range Learning - How Homeschooling Changes Everything by Laura Grace Welden and I enjoyed it very much. I also liked The Well-Adjusted Child: The Social Benefits of Homeschooling by Rachel Gathercole.

    Thanks!
Yup, was Gatto who I read. Really liked him.

I'm looking more for critiques on the education system. I will not be homeschooling, although I like the concept. I just can't see that it's for me or our current set up.

I've been reading this guy's blog and it's quite interesting. Haven't read the book, but it's on my list .

I think that you might like Coloring Outside the Lines by Roger Schank.
