Default Am I paying too much?

Hi there, just a quick question.. I have a son who will be starting day care when he is 1 year old. My DCP has 8 years of experience but as far as I know no formal training. She will be charging 36.50 per day (home day care), and 38.50 for part-time.
Does this seem like a lot? I thought it was fairly average but then I started seeing what some other people are charging... and I'm not sure..
Just curious, what's about average for full day care (4 days a week usually) for a 1 year old?

That sounds average. I paid that 8 years ago when my daughter was in full-time daycare.

When I was looking, it was about $36/day for full time through a HDCP. We decided to go through a center and paid $46/day.

I charge 35.00 for part time and 32 for full time.. so that seems to be the going rate for hdcp

    For London, that sounds reasonable.
If you were rural or St.T, probably not.
I found a huge difference city to city. Like I live in a city near toronto, and home daycare providers are lucky to see $27, expect to see $23-25/day. I was floored. Whe nI was in London I got about $45 a day for daycare, though it was long shifts.

Where we are (an hour from London) HDCP charge about $35ish/day. We go to a center and pay $46/day for infant and toddler care and you MUST pay for a 5 day week, even if you don't use it.

Seems pretty average assuming all meals/snacks are included.

as a HDCP in London I charge $35 fulltime and $40 part-time...as do all of the friends I network with....it seems about average...though there are a few providers out there still who charge less....but to be honest in order to provide healthy food, craft materials ect a good chunk of our pay goes to operating expenses

I was really lucky when I started DD in daycare as my HDCP had just started up and set her prices lower until she got established/more experienced. I've never paid over $32/day for HDC though and I'm currently paying $35/day for DD to be in a daycare centre in the GTA which is a great price around here. Sometimes in centres infants or toddlers have a higher price than preschoolers though so that could be reflected in the HDCP price as well, I'm not sure. If you're happy with the provider and the space your child will be in during their care, than that is the primary decision I'd be basing it off of. That said I wouldn't be comfortable paying close to $40/day for a HDCP.

From what I've seen that is a good price.

I think it was ABC daycare I was reading on their site is $50-something a day or $1,100 a month for an infant.
Western I think was $220 a week (for toddler) - maybe $240 a week for infant

As a parent, I paid $35 a day at one HDC, but the provider had her ECE (and provided daily reports, did lots of activities etc).

Since then I haven't paid more than $30 a day part-time, TBH I personally would go to a centre if I had to pay $38.50. However, if that's what the HDCP wants to charge and that's what people will pay, more power to them!

Thanks guys, I feel better now. LOL I had a friend that was making me doubt ... she does include snacks and lunch. I do have to bring my own homo milk for him though (he'll be 1)
